Do you find yourself constantly saying you’re too busy?

It’s interesting that "I'm too busy" has become a mantra for many women, especially high-achieving ones.

This often touted phrase isn't just about having a lot on your plate though; it's also a glimpse into a deeper issue rooted in our cultural attachment to productivity, overworking, and capitalism.

Being busy can make us feel important, validate us, and make us tell ourselves we’re not lazy, which is why we cling to it so tightly.

But this pursuit of productivity can trap us in a cycle of busyness where we measure our worth by how much we do rather than the actions and decisions that align with our goals and values.

With this conditioning, busyness becomes a badge of honor. This is not surprising, given the societal accolades for being able to "do it all." So many women unconsciously enmesh their identity with this posture.

There are consequences to this though.

As a leadership elevation coach, I've observed that this mindset can significantly hinder women from moving forward because they are tethered to too many things.

It also becomes a default excuse that seems plausible, except that it actually keeps women stuck in the hamster wheel of trying to do it all but not really focusing on what truly matters.

Even more costly, the pursuit of productivity often comes at the cost of our health, relationships, and sometimes, our sense of self.

Let’s face it. Everyone is busy these days. Technology, instead of simplifying our lives like we tend to tell ourselves, actually makes it more complicated and adds additional tasks that have become par for the course.

We’ve all been hoodwinked by this.

But what’s on your plate and what you juggle does not change unless you intentionally make choices to change the way you approach your prioritization of what’s important to you.

Ultimately, it's not about how many tasks you can juggle but choosing which balls to keep in the air.

This decision-making process is crucial for creating space for what truly moves the needle in your personal and professional life.

Yet, prioritization is often easier said than done. It requires a clear understanding of our values, goals, and vision for what we want in our lives.

In essence, the shift from being perpetually busy to being impactful starts with intentionality. This means making conscious choices about where to invest your time and energy based on what aligns with your long-term vision and values.

It's about understanding that saying no to certain tasks or responsibilities is not a sign of weakness but a strategic decision to focus on what truly matters.

If you’re considering working with me, you may tell yourself you’re adding one more thing to your plate.

But truly you’re freeing up time, because you’ll let go of those things that do not serve you. Our work together will help you focus, so you will end up saving time!

You will get clear about what’s important to you in the next six to twelve months in THIS season of your life and have the guidance and accountability to take aligned action.

This is where working with a coach and guide like me can be tremendously helpful in giving you the clarity and confidence you need to make better choices.

As a leadership elevation coach, my role is to guide women through a transformative journey where they realign their leadership posture to their vision and goals and clear the internal blocks and mindsets that have kept them stuck. With this unveiling, their brilliance has the space to be visible and shine so they ultimately increase their impact and income.

This productivity mindset is a huge block for high-achieving women and it’s extremely challenging to try to correct this on our own.I can relate because I’ve been there and sometimes still hang out there (and have to find my way back to my center with support).

One of my past clients who identifies as high achieving, was finding herself so overwhelmed with all her to-do list priorities that she found herself feeling lost in a haze of confusion. This clouded her ability to see areas of her life that she needed to work on to make an impact.

She was getting caught up in proving, performing, and perfecting and thinking that the things she prioritized a decade ago still mattered. But SO much has changed, including her!

She had certain structures and routines in place that she felt were non-negotiables for her because that’s the way she was used to operating. Things like, I have to read the paper every day or I need to put in 10 hours of “work” to feel productive.

But that way no longer served her. There were things in her life that she needed to outsource, delegate, or delete.

But those things, particularly the latter, are extremely hard to let go of when we have been attached to a way of being for a long time that worked in the past.

Wake up call!! We are in a new season! The world is SO much different now with technological advances, the pandemic, AI, and global conflicts, to say the least. We each have to shift the way we see our lives and rethink our priorities, especially professionally.

The journey from being "too busy" to becoming an impactful leader is not about doing more but BEING more and doing what matters as leaders/founders.

By reevaluating our relationship with productivity and embracing prioritization and intentionality, we can break free from the productivity trap.
