Ideas to celebrate Women on International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month

March has arrived, and this month it’s all about us ladies! Today is International Women’s Day and this month we celebrate  Women's History Month. There are numerous ways we can consider championing, supporting, lifting up, or amplifying the voices of women in our sphere. Here are a few ideas that can get you going:

  • Choose a young woman whom you can mentor. Mentorship does not have to feel intimidating (even though it sounds so). Mentorship can look like different things but a simple scenario can be inviting a young woman to read a book or do a bible study with you. Whether you mentor for a few weeks, months, or more, your guidance, time, and presence, are powerful ways you can positively impact a woman in your sphere.

  • Invest in a new woman-owned business. There are so many women, especially women of color, who have a side hustle, a small business, a non-profit, or a project you can support. Your investment does not have to be monetary. You can invest your time, expertise, influence, resources, etc. We can support each other in so many powerful ways. Often it’s just a matter of being intentional about doing so.

  • Become active in a women’s group focused on advocacy, support, and community. There are women’s groups galore online and in your community. Women out there need your unique brand of brilliance. How can you contribute to their success?

  • If you’re a natural leader, consider starting your own advocacy group. The time is now to use your influence and expertise. Invite like-minded women to a group where you can lift up each other. There are no limits except the ones we place on ourselves.

  • Advocate for a woman or women in a marginalized or minority community. The low-hanging fruit may just be the BIPOC woman sitting right next to you in your office space. Black History Month just ended but there is much work to be done--so many black women (and women of color period!) need allies and advocates in the workplace. We don’t need saviors, just sisters walking alongside us and being FOR us and our interests. How can you use your position, influence, or privilege to actively support a BIPOC woman?

Together as women, we have the opportunity to meaningfully impact our sphere. Let’s commit to using all the resources and information out here this month to do just that!
