Three reasons why high-achieving women need to savor their wins

High achieving women are hyper-focused on accomplishing, achieving, and attaining. They’re all about the Do. They are naturally hardwired to work hard.

As a coach working with high-achieving women and leaders, I have learned that as much as they do, these leaders are woefully inadequate in acknowledging it.

I know it because I was like this too. When I look back on the past 20 years of my professional life, I can’t believe all I accomplished!

But amid my many successes, I had no idea how valuable, exceptional, and distinctive my gifts and talents were.

One downside to this behavior is that as a high achiever unless you stop and pause you may miss the point that you are succeeding. Learning how to press pause is a habit every high-achieving woman needs to include in her life for her to savor her successes, reflect on her journey, and acknowledge her progress and growth.

You are distinct, special, exceptional, and stellar. Until you can fully embrace the magnitude of your superpowers, you’re going to always sell yourself short, overwork, strive for perfection, people-please, fly below the radar, and miss your specific purpose—the space and arena where you’re uniquely called and qualified to serve and shine.

None of us is wired to just go, go, go. We all need to replenish our inner resources in ways that have nothing to do with efforting and accomplishing.

Another downside of high achieving is burnout. This is a huge cost to pay and it is more prevalent now than ever. We have to stop being all about the Do. How do you take time to take stock? How do you honor your self-care? How do you relax? Do you even know how to?

Finally, in your quest to accomplish, you may neglect the people in your life who need you to be present and just “be.” In your doing, you may be forgetting and sometimes missing the moments, memories, and meaningful interactions that matter. For most of us, this is what feeds our souls. How can you start putting your people over your priorities? When you look back on your life, what will matter most to you?
