A New Type of Needed Leadership Development for Women

When I visited Trinidad a couple of months ago, I was introduced to the concept of syntropic farming which is a type of regenerative farming practice.

I’m not a farm girl and I have no green thumbs. But being in the environment of @Bethany cocoa estate and learning about this concept and seeing the fruit of it (literally), I was blown away. It made SO much sense and embodied so much of what I already believed about life.

Regenerative farming leads to healthy soil, which is the foundation of flourishing agriculture. This nourished soil is then capable of producing high quality, nutrient dense food while simultaneously improving, rather than destroying the land. This concept is about seeing the farm environment as an ecosystem where all parts contribute to the whole.  It ultimately leads to productive farms and thriving communities. It is dynamic and holistic.

A few weeks after I returned from my trip I heard about regenerative leadership. Huh, I thought, isn’t this the same concept as regenerative agriculture? It is.

Regenerative leadership is a new concept that is getting more airtime lately because of the gaps in our current organizational models and frameworks that were built, unfortunately, to elevate a specific segment of society.

It builds on the framework of regenerative agriculture/farming that has been practiced for decades.

We need this type of leadership. Because the world today is calling for a new type of leader.

One who is inclusive-minded, innovative, emotionally intelligent, about collaboration and co-creation, and who understands the interconnectedness of life and is driven to help not just the current cohort thrive but those in the future.

These leaders are altruistic because they are about “we” vs. “me” and they focus on promoting the collective. They are bold and courageous and are prepared to challenge the status quo. They are disruptors with a mission and purpose.

Regenerative leadership offers a holistic, innovative, and collaborative approach to leading and creating sustainable cultures, organizations, and communities.

Regenerative leadership is a way of leading that emphasizes the restoration and replenishment of natural, social, and economic systems. It aims to create a positive impact on people and the planet and build long-term, sustainable solutions. 

As women we need a new playbook for leadership. And men need one too. I’m going to be talking a lot more about this new concept because it aligns with my vision of leadership. And it addresses core themes I touch on in my book, It’s Your Time to Shine Girl.
