How Are You Doing With Self-Prioritization? Three Key Questions to Ask Yourself

Isn’t it crazy that Winter is practically over and soon we’ll officially be in Spring?

How is this year flying by so quickly already? I know I’m not the only one feeling the accelerated pace and sense of urgency that has been the hallmark of 2024.

If you’re like me, you typically plan ahead as you kickstart a new season. I’m sure you find yourself making sure things are lined up at work, in your family or household, and hopefully in your personal life too.

Because one of the things I’ve observed so often with the women I’ve coached over the years is that we de-prioritize ourselves. In other words, we put ourselves and our needs last.

So let us reflect a bit on that thing that often gets overlooked: our own well-being and personal growth. Because here's the thing: when we neglect our own health and happiness, it can have a significant impact on those around us too.

With that in mind, I want to ask you three simple questions as you prepare for the new season:

First, have you scheduled time for restorative activities?

Personally, if I don't block off time in my calendar for these, it simply doesn't happen. So, I've created a daily rhythm where I spend 10 minutes stretching with gentle yoga poses as I start my day and end with 20 minutes on an acupuncture mat to relieve stress from my body before going to bed.

As the seasons change, what daily, weekly, or monthly restorative rhythms can you incorporate into your own life?

Second, have you checked in with yourself to see if your plans or goals align with your priorities?

It's so important to identify what truly matters to you. By naming our priorities, we can evaluate whether our plans reflect them.

For me, it means setting aside regular catch-up times with long-distance loved ones who are near and dear to me and making an effort to connect with busy friends in person or over the phone.

I know if I don’t plan for those quality time moments (my primary love language) then I get caught up in my business goals etc., and the next thing I know months have passed and I have not checked in with someone who matters to me. Been there done that not doing it anymore!

This intentionality also looks like the boundaries I need to set to have the type of life I want. For you, what do you need to say "no" to this last quarter, so you can be fully present for what you do want?

Finally, how will you invest in your leadership development?

This is a question that should always be top of mind. Whether it's working with a mentor, coach, therapist, joining a group program, or taking a class, investing in our personal and professional growth is crucial.

It might mean choosing to spend less time on mindless activities like binge-watching Netflix and instead opting for books or podcasts that inspire and uplift us.

If you're looking to invest in your leadership development or personal growth, I'd like to invite you to consider one of my coaching programs. They're designed to help you embrace your strengths, leverage your expertise, and step into an evolved version of yourself that allows you to attract and receive the life you truly desire.
