5 Strategies to Boost your Leadership Visibility
If you’ve been keeping up with my posts, you know that one of my all-time favorite quotes is from Marianne Williamson’s Return to Love book, a part which says,
“Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others won’t feel insecure around you. We are born to shine…We are born to make manifest the glory of God within us...”
“Playing small” is for wimps and I used to be one! That is until I learned to embrace my strengths, celebrate my wins, and be my own best advocate! Until I learned (and still keep learning) to stand firm in Truth, live my values, and let my voice be heard.
“Playing large” or choosing to make your presence known and felt may not be for the faint of heart but it surely is the path to fulfillment, being an impactful leader, and legacy-making.
Improving your visibility is a task you take on intentionally and strategically. When your skills are valued, when you have access to stretch assignments, and when you are known and liked by influential senior leaders, you are on track to become more visible in your position.
To give you a jump start, here are 5 strategies that will help you play large and boost your visibility and impact.
1. Seek projects or engagements that shine the light on your skills and expertise.
2. Go outside your comfort zone and seek assignments that help you learn, grow, or stretch.
3. In my last post, I talked about the benefits of authentic self-promotion. Part of self-promotion is learning how to amplify your accomplishments so that the delivery is received in a positive light. Again, being strategic will serve you well.
4. Finally, think big picture. Consider and reflect on these questions. At the end of your life, what would matter most to you about your life? What would you want your impact to be? How can you start living as if you were making that vision a reality?
You have everything in you to be an impactful leader. Amp up your visibility with these strategies and notice how your peers and colleagues start treating you like the superstar you already are!
